All business decisions have tax implications. Being proficient in tax is essential for Chartered Accountants required to provide accurate professional advice.
This course will advance your technical knowledge of tax, and also develop broader business skills in problem solving, critical thinking, research and evaluation.
The tax module examines and applies relevant tax law to various tax entities and covers:
•    Tax fundamentals
•    Trading stock
•    Employment remuneration
•    Capital gains tax (Namibia module only)
•    Tax losses
•    International tax
•    Tax planning

This 12-week course is one of five compulsory modules of the Chartered Accountants Program.

Integrating technical skills and ethics

The focus of the Capstone module is communicating solutions to complex business problems.
Our Capstone module is the final chapter of the ACA Program, further developing your ethics training and other skills you need to progress in the business world with professionalism and confidence.
Areas covered in the module include integrating your technical knowledge, ethics, corporate governance, strategy and corporate social responsibility.
Exposure to these areas will enable you to build capability in problem solving and communication, which are essential to any role in any industry.

Capstone structure and format

You are supported throughout your learning by a range of online resources  and face to face activities
Online resources include:
•    Online communities where you can network with other candidates
•    Technical discussion forums where your questions will be answered by specialist Chartered Accountants
•    Peer discussion forums
•    Access to resources including a course reference guide and materials to help you prepare for exams
Face to face activities include:
•    Three workshops with other candidates to share information and network
•    Interactive sessions where you work as a team on multi-faceted activities based on real life scenarios
•    ACA Study Masterclass. These optional workshops can help you stay on track and prepare for the final exam

Mentored Practical Experience

Complement your educational training with practical work experience and professional mentoring
IN BRIEF
•    Completing practical work experience with guidance from a mentor is an important part of earning your ACA.
•    It’s your opportunity to show how you are able to apply technical principles and professional skills in a practical working context.
•    You can choose your own mentor, but they must be an experienced full member with ACA.

Show what you’ve learnt

To become ACA, you must complete the Practical Experience Program to be awarded the designation.
Mentored Practical Experience ensures your learning is applied in a professional context.
You will need to demonstrate competency in at least two of the following technical areas:
•    accounting academic
•    accounting information systems
•    auditing
•    external reporting
•    financial management
•    insolvency and reconstructions
•    management accounting
•    taxation
•    financial advice
You will also need to demonstrate competency in all of the following non-technical areas:
•    teamwork
•    organisational skills
•    research and evaluation
•    decision making
•    exercising ethical and professional behaviour
•    communication and interpersonal skills
You can start your practical experience before commencing any ACA Program modules. You can find more information on the competencies and the logbook to record your progress by referring to the related downloads below.
Both your mentor and your manager will provide you with ongoing opportunities to develop and demonstrate your required competencies and help guide and monitor your progress.
